Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept children who are not toilet trained?
Yes, under anti-discriminatory regulations this can no longer be given as a reason for not accepting a child into the group.

Do you supply milk?
Yes, our milk bar is open between 9.30am and 11.00am. The children are offered the choice of milk or water and a healthy snack. There is also water available throughout the morning.

Do the children receive funding and when?
Yes, children are funded by the government through Bromley Early Years in the term after their third birthday. All you need to do is supply a copy of your child’s birth certificate when they join us and we do the rest.

Do you accept child credits?
Yes, we are registered to receive these credits so your child’s fees can be taken straight from your employer.

What is the Foundation Stage?
The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the standards for Learning, Development and Care for children from birth to five. If you wish to see this document it can be found at www.everychildmatters.gov.uk. It sets out six areas of learning which are listed below.

What are the Early Learning Goals?
These are the six areas of learning mentioned above. These goals are delivered to the children through well planned and resourced play. We believe children learn best when they are playing and exploring, finding out for themselves and having fun. The six areas of learning are:-

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Creative Development
  • Physical Development

How many sessions can my child have?
We do not tell you how many sessions your child should do as we consider you as the child’s primary carer and teacher. We will discuss this matter with you as all children are individuals and therefore what suits one will not suit another.

When can my child start attending the group?
We will take children from the age of 2 years. Some years we will have three points of intake, Autumn term, Spring term and Summer term, other years we will only have two, Autumn and Spring terms. Please ask when you come and visit us and we will be able to tell you what is available. We can take children outside of these points of entry if spaces are available.

    Do you have Ofsted inspections?
Yes, this is a requirement to be able to receive the funding from the government. A copy of our latest inspection is available on the Ofsted website. Please follow the link form the home page. We have always had very good Ofsted inspections and are also an accredited member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

How many children do you have?
We are registered for 36 children a session.

How many staff do you have and are they qualified?
There are 11 staff and six are present at each session. One member of staff is a qualified teacher and four are qualified to a level three or above. Of the remaining staff they are all either qualified to a level two or working towards a level 2

    Do the children play outside?
Yes, we have a secure outside area adjacent to the building and the children are able to play out there every day.

How can I be involved in my child’s time with you?
Each child is allocated a personal key worker. This means a member of staff is allocated to look after and keep records of your child’s progress. Your child’s key worker will involve you in making an individual curriculum for your child’s development through regular meetings and conversations with you. If you wish to be involved more than this we have a fund raising and activities advisory committee which you would be very welcome to join. This meets about once a term and plans events like the children’s summer party and silent auction which is held in July. They also organise some social events so if you don’t want to join the committee you can just come along, have fun and make some new friends.
